About

Our Journey

Farming and cattle are are embedded in Banamba Angus’ DNA. Whilst the Banamba name is recent, our family history stems back to 1970 when John Farragher (Snr) brought his breeder cows (Hereford and Charloias), although not Angus, it set the foundation for where John (Jnr) would take his cattle operation in later years.

On the other side of our family, Steven Forgacs began expanding his small cattle operation at ‘Banamba’ in Seaham to purchase Kuloo Station in Cassalis and a decade later the famous Colaroy Station. By doing so setting the foundation to grow and prosper his Angus herd, and set tone for one of the most impressive operations within Merriwa district.

Banamba stands for Change, and Change is exactly what we are doing. Our Seaham property located on the beautiful Williams River was purchased in 1970s by Etelka and Steven Forgacs, it has served as a home and retreat for our family for many years.
Over the last decade it has served as a home for Brittany and I, where we are raising our four young children.

In March 2022 my wonderful father John Farragher passed away. During the months leading up to his sudden passing, Mum and Dad were in discussion of increasing their operation which was between Brandy Hill and Seaham into a much larger operation.

In June 2022 we as a family decided to jump head first into increasing Dads existing herd and continue building a life changing, top quality Angus operation in the upper Hunter.

We purchased ‘Bundaleer South’ and ‘neighbouring’ property ‘Tank Mountain’ at the same time in the Singleton district and have since added irrigation properties ‘Mawarra’ and ‘Wilson’ in the Scone district.

Whilst we were acquiring the land to accommodate our growing herd size we turned our focus to building and maintaining relationships with the top angus cattle breeders in the industry.

Our Vision

We have heavily invested in some of the best bulls in the country through Texas Angus with a focus on ease of calving, and exceptional 200, 400 and 600 day growth rates. This can already be seen in the weaners we have coming through, that were sired by some of the Texas bulls.

Our main goal is to produce structurally sound, strong cattle with the best temperament possible that will do well in any climate. We aim to raise and sell the highest quality females to the greater Hunter and NSW area and raise top weaner steers that then head to our irrigation property to be grass fed to a weight range of 500-550kg ready to go straight into processing. When puchasing Banamba Angus steers, they will know they are receiving the highest quality grass fed beef in the area with a focus on top quality genetics.

In our early tenure we brought a solid heard of Waverly cattle, whilst not our largest framed cows, they have impeccable structures, are wonderful mothers and have a quiet temperament.

Over the last 18 months we have purchased some key blood lines, with large heard of Hazldene 4 year old cows joining in early 2023 and our most recent purchase this year of Temania full blood cows. These girls pushed our scales with some hitting over 800kg.

This leads us to our most important herd that resides with us at Seaham, majority of our stud cows come from Jim and Sally Tickle, owners of SugarLoaf Angus. Jims females are the epitome of femine, strong framed cows with quiet temperaments, these will add huge power to our herd. We also have some Scotts Angus cows which also reside with us at Seaham to make a powerful stud herd who will grow and sustain our genetic pool.
